In spite of increased community outcry, the occupation of Piccolo School, a report refuting the effectivenes of turnarounds from Designs for Change and two teachers speaking out on the horrendous management of Orr H.S. by turnaround manager AUSL, the Chicago Board of Education approved all school actions today. The Board approved 10 turnarounds, 5 closures and 2 phase outs.
Today’s Board of Education meeting actually had so many people that they stopped letting people in. Despite testimony from students, community members, parents, teachers and politicians against the school actions, the Board towed the line and helped further the destruction and privatization of public education in Chicago.
